Resiliency
If left unmitigated, Relative Sea Level Rise will inundate low lying areas of Galveston Island. The Texas General Land Office is currently updating the Texas Coastal Resiliency Master Plan. The final plan is to be issued in 2023, and start the four-year Planning Cycle for implementation.
The City and our environmental partners should leverage the funding opportunities at the GLO and other federal and state programs to develop and fund projects that protect land, dunes, and shorelines, as well as land acquisitions, flood risk reduction, and community infrastructure that enhance resiliency in Galveston.
I voted to approve the grant award from the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) for the construction of the new causeway waterline from the FEMA Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) program at the January 2024 city council meeting.
